Description
This position will be responsible for driving the company tractor to transport inventory between warehouses, following all Department of Transportation laws and regulations. The position will require CDL and work with the warehousing and shipping teams. This candidate must have a passion for on-time, complete, and correct job performance. The position of Tractor Driver may consist of only 10% of your day. The remainder of the day will be spent as a material handler, or on any other assignments as deemed by management. This individual will report to the Supply Chain Manager.
Responsibilities
- Receive pickup and delivery instructions from appropriate sources and ensure that product is delivered safely and in quality condition to the appropriate destination company warehouse
- Safely and properly secure cargo for transport, using chains, load bars, chocks, brakes, or other means appropriate for the load and the vehicle
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order before driving the vehicle.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles immediately to supervisor and management
- Maintain logs of working hours, miles driven, and vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations
- Maneuver trucks safely into loading and unloading positions, following signals from loading crew if applicable, and checking that the vehicle is properly positioned before allowing the load crew to load the cargo
- Obtain signatures for delivered goods and collect paperwork where applicable
- Maintain CDL license as applicable to the vehicle driven, and ensure that driver’s license is active
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor and support continuous improvement efforts
Requirements
- Candidate should have at minimum a high school education, GED or equivalent. Commercial truck driving experience preferred.
- A current valid CDL Class A Driver’s License and a “clean” driving record is required.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on regular basis.
- Must be able to perform pulling, staging, loading and unloading trucks/ carts.
- Store product in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouse or off-site warehouse.
- Work multiple warehouse sites/ docks as applicable.
- Must be able to deal with wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat/cold. Work environment may include moving mechanical parts, airborne particles and moderate to loud noise, requiring consistent use of appropriate PPE.
- Must be able to operate sit down forklift and stand-up order pickers
- Must be able to operate pallet jacks and manual pallet jacks
